Where Is Center Park Located?
Center Park comprises the entire Village-owned property located off of South Helmer Ave. between Cramer Lane and Baker Street.
What Parts of the Project Have Been Completed to Date?
The Project has been more than 10 years in the making. The first improvement was made by the complete replacement of the Village playground, now referred to as the Dolgeville Fun and Fitness Area (DFAFA). Playground and exercise equipment was purchased and installed with the project fully funded through grants, fundraisers, donations, and in-kind services. The area was built by community volunteers through a series of community builds.
The second improvement was the complete rebuild of the basketball court. This was fully funded through grants from the Wadas Foundation and utilization of unused Herkimer County ARPA funding.
What Does This Phase of the Project Include?
This phase of the project includes the following:
The Pavilion - A three-season facility that can be used for a plethora of community activities and events. It also includes much-needed public bathrooms and parking.
The Splash Pad - Located near the playground and basketball court, the splash pad will give children and families hours of safe fun, active play, outdoor family time, and inclusive recreation.
Park-wide Improvements - These will make the entire park safer, more functional, and more accessible, including for those using wheelchairs, walkers, strollers, etc. Native plantings of trees and shrubs will provide shade and beautify the entire park.
How Is This Phase Funded?
The pavilion, splash pad, and park improvements are funded through multiple sources. These include grants from the State of New York (Office of Parks and Historic Preservation, and NY Forward), financial support/donations from corporations, non-profits, foundations, municipalities, and individuals, as well as in-kind services.
What Is the Projected Timeline for the Center Park Project?
The project is well on its way, with the basic pavilion structure to be completed by the end of August and the entire project to be completed by the end of November, 2026.
Has All Funding for the Project Been Obtained?
While the Village has secured a great deal of the funding through sources outlined above, due to escalating costs of labor and materials, and increased fuel costs impacting shipping and trucking, to keep the project on track and achieve the intended scope, the project requires an additional $450,000 in funding.
Why Does the “Center Park Project” Matter to the Village?
Center Park is where families gather. It’s where kids play. It’s where community members of all ages and abilities can spend time outdoors in a safe, welcoming environment. It supports healthy activities and time outdoors for children and families and is inclusive so all community members regardless of age or ability can participate. It also boosts community pride, improves quality of life, and encourages social interactions through community gatherings and events. In addition, an accessible community space is attractive to potential new residents and businesses.
